THE OPPORTUNITY: Join Mutual Trust Life Insurance Company as a Senior Internal Auditor on a small and highly regarded audit team.



The Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for conducting internal reviews for financial, operational, and compliance audits with little supervision. This position will also evaluate and determine the efficacy of internal controls, identify potential risks, and use proven accepted methodologies to introduce measures to reduce any possible gaps.

  • Plan, document, interview, analyze, examine, and verify a broad range of audit projects to ensure that proper structural design, information flow, compliance with laws and regulations, and internal controls exist and are being followed
  • Recognize the need for expanding the audit itself or examining related areas not specifically covered by the procedures
  • Communicate audit results using various formats including formal written reports, graphic representations, and oral presentations
  • Lead project teams and be responsible for project ownership
  • Drives the project and provides timely updates to Internal Audit, MTLIC and PALIG management
  • Balance multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Facilitate discussions and guides management in structural design, control implementation, risk mitigation, and action planning
  • Coordinate responses to external requests including regulatory examinations, external audits, and other sources
  • Completes special projects assigned by management that vary in size and duration
  • Must assist management in evaluating existing systems and provide recommendations for improvement and appropriate controls
  • Cultivate and maintain a favorable working relationship with company personnel
  • Select suitable audit procedures to apply to each project
  • Apply analysis methods to interpret data
  • Develop meaningful recommendations, and conduct follow-up procedures as needed
  • Responsible for being familiar with and being able to apply risk-based audit methodologies, best practices, fraud/misrepresentation detection, and appropriate procedures to yield impactful audit results

Additionally, the person who will succeed in this role will have the ability to apply standard audit practices including testing approaches, internal audit standards and best practices, risk-based auditing methodologies and leading control frameworks.



  • Bachelor degree and 3+ years relevant audit experience preferred (predominantly analytical position related to audit or accounting)
  • CIA designation or willingness to obtain CIA designation within 3 years required
  • Additional relevant certifications desired (CPA, CISA, CFE, CFSA, etc.)
  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze financial data. Ability to work with accounting concepts
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as statistical sampling and inference, percentages, ratios and proportions
  • Strong knowledge of financial, operational, and compliance controls
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. Some familiarity with MS Access, audit software and EDP security and control
  • High degree of comfort with extracting, manipulating, and analyzing data
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to consider diverse perspectives, prioritize, and construct balanced action plans
  • Exhibit professionalism and objectivity
  • Apply creativity, flexibility, and perspective to all work performed
  • Public accounting experience a plus
  • Insurance industry experience a plus
